Saddle Sizing

The Ortho-Flex Flexible Saddle System will fit a much wider variety of horse's because the patented flexible panel system flexes and conforms to the shape of the horse's back.  This system also moves with your horse while riding, providing a fit and comfort for your horse equaled by no other saddle. 

 Traditional saddles place a non-conforming rigid saddle tree directly on the horse's back, which does not allow the horse to move or bend under the saddle.  Traditional saddles that do not fit correctly, will cause saddle soreing and an uncooperative horse.  Because the Ortho-Flex System adapts to your horse's shape automatically, measurements of your horse are not necessary to ensure your custom Ortho-Flex Saddle will fit great on your horse.  While no saddle company can honestly guarantee that their saddle will fit any horse, the Ortho-Flex company makes more special sizes for horses and for people than any saddle maker that we are aware of.  Some horse's have extremely short backs, high withers or wide bodies, if this is the case, we may recommend some of our saddle models over others. As a general rule though, an Ortho-Flex saddle will fit your horse better than a traditional saddle. Saddle trees are available in reg, short, wide, short & wide.  Flex panel systems I, III, & VI were developed for different types of horses, including horses with very short backs.  In order to provide the rider with a properly fitting saddle we will need a few of your measurements.  These include your Hip size (largest diameter), your inseam length to your ankle bone (inside of leg, not your pants size) and the largest diameter of one of your thighs.  We will also need to know if you want a "plush" or "stitch down" seat, these add more padding and increase the seat size needed.  The sizing will vary depending on the saddle model but we take your measurements and build you a saddle that fits you as well as it fits your horse.

Why aren't traditional saddles

 good enough?

Traditional Saddles use a rigid tree made from wood or other synthetic hard materials which are placed directly on the horse's back.  This tree is great for the rider because it provides a solid seat for security and, if made correctly, can also be comfortable - for the rider, however the story is much different from the horse's point of view.

The manufacturing facility is located in rural southern Arkansas. Ortho-Flex is the main employer in the town of Warren and employees take personal pride in producing a quality product.  The factory manufactures all the saddles from start to finish including saddle trees, silver and brass trim, and most all accessories.

 

Oiling a Saddle:

Neets Foot- normal oiling.

Light olive oil  makes your saddle just a little darker.

Peanut oil for a dark saddle (caution: allergies to peanuts are common)

Leather Max by Ortho-Flex is an excellent conditioner for long term care of all your leather products including shoes, purses, and of course saddles, bridles. It will not change the color of you leather. Always in stock!

 

Washing your sheepskin bootie: Never machine wash!  Hand or spray wash.  To prevent the bootie from drying in an unusable shape, cover the skirts/panels of your saddle with at least two layers of saran wrap.  Fit the still wet bootie over the panels and attach as normal.  When the bootie is almost dry, remove and hang to finish drying.
